Dublin City is accessible via the DART train line, which is within 2 minutes walking distance from the Royal Marine Hotel. The DART train line runs along the coast stretching from North Dublin to South Dublin.

With only twenty minutes by the DART train line direct into Dublin City Centre, this makes Dun Laoghaire accessible to the heart of the capital whilst allowing you to enjoy a more scenic location.

If you're coming to Ireland via Dublin Airport, a Coach service called The Patten Flyer is available that will bring you to/from Dublin Airport and the Royal Marine Hotel, door-to-door in 40 minutes. Currently this is at the very competitive rate of €8 single.

The Royal Marine Hotel is 2 minutes walk to the Ferry Port. There is a direct route ferry between Dun Laoghaire and Holyhead in Wales. This takes approximately 100 minutes via Stena Line’s magnificent HSS craft.

For over a century Dun Laoghaire was the main sea route between Britain and Ireland.

Dun Laoghaire is at the doorstep to Wicklow, also known as the Garden of Ireland.

 

Coastal Town

Dun Laoghaire is a coast town based six miles south of Dublin City Centre. Boasting some of the counties most beautiful walks, the town has two mile long piers and the Peoples Park, ideal for a quiet evening stroll. Coastal walks stretch for miles and really show off the beauty of the Dublin coastline.

Full of history and character, this town was made famous by James Joyce through the famous novel Ulysses. Joyces' brief stay here inspired the opening of his great novel.

Its Harbour, the largest man-made harbour in Western Europe, was one of the great architectural/engineering projects of the 19th Century and remains an important working port as well as a valuable leisure facility.


A Busy Town

The town, with its thriving commercial centre. Dun Laoghaire, both a Victorian and Modern town, has played an important part in the development of Modern Ireland.

Today Dun Laoghaire is a vibrant exciting place; a mélange of the old and new, an ideal place for day, night or weekend breaks in Dublin.

It is the administrative centre for the County and has its own Theatre, 12-Screen Cinema Complex, Maritime Museum, Golf Course, on-street shopping, two shopping centres, an excellent public transport system and ample car parking.

 

Surrounding Areas

There are numerous restaurants & bars nearby between Dun Laoghaire and its surrounding picturesque villages, Sandycove, Dalkey, Monkstown and Blackrock, all situated along the Dublin coastline.

For those with a bit of leisure time, the largest shopping centre in Europe, the Dundrum Shopping Centre, is a mere fifteen minutes drive from the Hotel. For all the top brands as well as the high street brands, and a selection of cinemas, theatres and restaurants, it's a great day out.

For some ideas for off site options, we can highly recommend Johnny Foxes, the highest bar in Ireland and The Merry Ploughboys Pub, both host fun filled Traditional Irish Nights. Or why not try a bit of the famous black stuff and visit the Guinness Storehouse, which offers 360 degree views of Dublin from its’ Gravity Bar – naturally after you have learned how to pour the Perfect Pint.

Thirty minutes south of Dun Laoghaire is Wicklow, also known as the Garden of Ireland. Here you will find Powerscourt Waterfall, the Monastic settlings Glendalough and the Blessington Lakes, to name but a few of the attractions.
