historic and relaxed town steeped in maritime history
Dun Laoghaire and its environs have a rich social, cultural and maritime history.
This once Victorian playground is the home to many period houses built in the Victorian era and a magnificent waterfront experience which consists of a number of well-known yacht clubs and the East & West Pier and the Maritime Museum. Dun Laoghaire is an historic town and possesses some of the most important literary heritage in Ireland.
Dun Laoghaire and its environs are home to some of Ireland’s greatest writers, past and present and Dun Laoghaire celebrates Bloom's Day every year (June 16th) where Joyce enthusiasts celebrate and recall the opening of his great Novel Ulysses which was inspired by his short stay in the area.
Although a busy market and shopping town also, the pace of life in Dun Laoghaire is relaxed, none more so in evidence than when taking a stroll through the weekend Farmers Market in the Peoples Park.
